[edit] Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense

Underneath the inconspicuous storefront of Trenton Glass & Mirror, Inc., lies the labyrinthine headquarters of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). Classified under so many levels of plausible deniability that its very existence is unknown to high-ranking government officials, the BPRD has been an active part of the United States' defense plan since 1942. The Bureau was activated by FDR after BPRD founder Professor Broom showed evidence of a Nazi occult threat. After a series of successful missions that literally kept Hell in its place, Broom was given a chairmen position in the highly funded post-war organization.

The BPRD has worked tirelessly as the ultimate defense against true evils of this world and beyond. Their field work and documented experience battling against paranormal horrors -- both worldly and cosmic -- has resulted in a vast intelligence depository and occult library. And along the way they have picked up some of the biggest paranormal muscle imaginable: figures like Hellboy, Abe Sapien, and Liz Sherman are among agents wielded in the BPRD's high-impact combat strategies. With a team like this, no slithering tentacled horror is safe.

The BPRD Mission Statement

The best known amongst this top paranormal operative are HELLBOY, ABE SAPIEN, and LIZ SHERMAN. When things go “bump in the night,” the B.P.R.D. are the ones that bump back.

The B.P.R.D. is housed in a subterranean bunker that was originally intended to be refuge for all branches of government during the nuclear scare years. Professor Broom’s office was to be the command and control center for the President, Hellboy’s Room was to be used to store gold bullion and other valuables.
